okay the idea is a Race night. Basically its a series of horse races (usually 8) with about 6 horses in each (theyre usually real races that have been filmed).
So we sell 100 tickets for people to come (tickets sold before the night for £1) along with selling the horses for each race so that someone 'ownes' them, for £5. The owner of the horse that wins each race wins £15. So for each race we take £30 and pay out £15, so we make £15x8 = £120 (but people have to sell the ownerships before the evening, which mean about 48 horses to be sold beforehand).
Then on the evening we run a bar as well to bring money in
And we do betting on the horses. The easiest way is not to offer odds, but to do it as 50p a bet, and you have to pick the winner and 2nd place in order. We keep 50% of the takings and the winnings get divided amongst the winners. so.... if for example we had 100 people there and 50 people bet on a race thats £25. We take £12.50 and those you got 1st and 2nd right per race take a share of the remaining £12.50. So again after 8 races we should make about another £100
So thats £250, minus the cost of buying the race package (about £80), £170ish +bar money
There are people tat can come in and do it , but they charge extra for it and that takes money out of the profits, so we can do it ourselves, and i think some companies do other animals so not every race is a horse (there's camel, pigs and rabbits!).
So.... a date. Do we go for a couple of weeks before Xmas (soon), or wait until early Feb (no one has money in Jan!)?? Suggestions and comments welcome.
