Hi Liam and everyone else, hopefully this will answer some of your questions Location The event will be based at Goblin Combe near Cleeve (South West of Bristol).
The Competition base is:- Goblin Combe Campsite, Goblin Combe. OS Grid Reference GR 468 650 on OS Explorer Map 154 Bristol West & Portishead (1:25 000).
Important note to drivers As always please try to travel in as few vehicles as possible.
Approach the base at a safe and sensible speed. The lanes are narrow and teams could be walking along this road.
Parking marshals will direct you where to stop. Make it clear to them whether you are dropping off teams or staying over. Please park where directed.
Directions
Please follow these directions as Cleve Hill Road (between the A370 & the base) is closed for major roadworks.
From Bristol on A38 1. Take the A38 (signed Bristol Airport) heading South West 2. Pass the Airport continuing in the same direction 3. At Redhill take the turning to the right signed Redhill & Wrington 4. Follow this lane (Church Lane) through the village (slowly) 5. DO NOT take the lane on the right signed to Goblin Combe (it doesn’t lead to the Combe but to a farm of the same name). 6. Continue in to Wrington (along Long Lane) 7. Take the first main turn on the right (Wrington Hill) 8. Follow this lane up hill as it turns left on to the flat 9. You will find the base on the right after approx 1 mile (after the Kennels on your left) 10. Road Marshalls will be visible and direct you on to the site. Entry to the site is over private land please wait for the gates to be opened by the marshals. Mobile Phones Each team must provide at least one mobile number on which they can be contacted during the event. This must be detailed in the contact sheet attached. There will be a number of checkpoints along the route that will be radio linked and teams should rarely be more than ½ mile away from a checkpoint.
Kit list
For the event each team will require: • OS Explorer Map 154 Bristol West & Portishead (1:25 000). • First aid kit • Compass (at least 2) • Map case (2 if possible) • Pencils (at least 2) • Clipboard & clear polythene bag - you will need to keep your instruction/answer sheet dry • Whistle (at least 2) • Fluorescent tabards or high visibility jackets (at least 2 per team)
Each individual will require: • Torch & spare batteries (this is important … its dark!) • Walking boots (no Wellingtons, no trainers!) • Warm clothing (many thin layers are better than a few thick ones) • Waterproof coat and trousers • Spare jumper/fleece • Hat & gloves • Water bottle.
Remember if you are camping that you will also require: • Tent/s • Bedding mat or similar • Sleeping bag • Wash kit & towel • Change of clothes I reckon we should get there for about five oclock, the first team is setting off at 6.45. We have exactly the same tents as last year, so may blow down. Sorry. Finally of course we are going to win, we are downend!! Speaking to 229 leaders they don't think they will win!! If anyone has any of the team kit, can you let me know later so we don't need to unnecessarily spend money!! you need to be picked up at 0930 on the Sunday morning, but parents are welcome to come earlier and see the presentation. hope this helps, any questions ask me later!!
